Scolopendra vs Slug

Stumbled across this slow motion battle. The Scolopendra sp. centipede was about 5 inches long. They can get around 12. It had tried to eat the slug, but the slug slimed it, leaving Scolopendra's mouthparts full of sticky slime, to which everything would stick. Thus incapacitated, the centipede refused to let go of the slug, holding it under its body with its back legs while using the front legs to try to clear away its mouth. We removed the leaves, twigs, and rocks to get photos and out of a slight sense of pity, although really, I was routing for the slug. And the slug was victorious! While Scolopendra was busy freeing its terrifying mouth, the slug slowly slipped away...
